The Lemon Twigs by Lynda Waterhouse

I tagged along with a group of friends to the ICA (Institute of Contemporary Art) a couple of weeks ago to see a band called The Lemon Twigs.

I had no expectations. I had taken up the offer because I really wanted to catch up with my friends and the ICA is a great place for people watching and seeing what the arty crowd are wearing and doing.

WOW! I loved the Lemon Twigs.

At the heart of the Lemon Twigs are two brothers from Long Island, New York: Brian and Michael D’Addario. On stage they are joined by Danny Ayala on keyboards and Megan Zeankowski on bass. Brian and Michael are 19 and 17 and they wrote the songs on their debut album two years ago when they were 17 and 15!!

Being an oldster I could enjoy the cultural references such as glam rock, Bay City Rollers, Todd Rundgren etc. BUT, what I liked the most was the fact that they had absorbed and reworked their musical influences to create something fresh and new.

That is the art of good writing.
